More hurricanes formed after this season's peak compared to years past and they took lives hundreds of miles from the coast.

Despite experiencing a relatively quiet July and August, the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season still managed to spawn 18 named storms, including 11 hurricanes and five major hurricanes. A typical season sees around 14 named storms, with seven of those becoming hurricanes and 3 becoming major hurricanes.

Some long range global models show weak low pressure trying to form over the Southern or Western Caribbean & there is a lot of disorganized convection over the Central Caribbean. Any low pressure that might form should stay away from the Lower 48 of the U.S. as upper level troughing holds firm over the Eastern half of the U.S.
