An atmospheric river storm dumped five months of rain in four days over Sonoma County, Calif., north of San Francisco. NBC News' national climate reporter Chase Cain reports on the latest river flood warning and snowfall totals on the West Coast.

With umbrellas in hand, people lined up down the block at the Ritter Center in San Rafael for the nonprofit's annual Thanksgiving meal giveaway.

The atmospheric river will bring heavy rain, flood risks and strong winds to the region, with the North Bay taking the brunt of the impacts. The focus of flooding will be on smaller streams, creeks and roads in the North Bay. Our rivers will be able to handle this first storm of the season and are not expected to flood.

The intensity of this week's atmospheric river storm has caused great damage across the North Bay, with roads flooded, trees knocked down and some without power. The storm is expected to hit the rest of the region on Friday.
