Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss on Thursday and decided to send India in to bat in the first cricket test. India was playing a test for the first time since March when it beat England 4-1 in a five-match series in India.

The India vs Bangladesh Test series is underway at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai. India have begun their new era under the head coach Gautam Gambhir and will look to mark the first Test of his tenure on a winning note.

The second Test of this series is set to be played in Kanpur from October 1. This will be followed by a three-match Test series against New Zealand, who are currently playing out a series in Sri Lanka.
