Cyclone Fengal - pronounced 'Feinjal' - is likely to make landfall this evening between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram with a wind speed of 70-80 km per hour, gusting up to 90 kmph.

The cyclone is likely to continue moving west-northwestward and cross the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram, near Puducherry, as a cyclonic storm with wind speeds of 70-80 km/h, gusting to 90 km/h, during the afternoon of November 30.

Moving at a much reduced speed of 6 kmph than the previous 13 kmph, the centre of the cyclonic system would take another three to four hours to cross the coast, the Regional Meteorological Centre said.
