Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton paced both of Thursday night’s practices at the Las Vegas Grand Prix just two weeks after one of the worst races of his career.

Max Verstappen followed up securing his fourth world championship by winning a chaotic Qatar Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton suffered another miserable evening in his penultimate Mercedes appearance. Seven-time world champion Hamilton was penalised twice by the stewards and said his car was “broken” as he finished down in 12th spot in a race which saw Verstappen claim a dominant win.

From a smashed mirror and crashes to unusually severe penalties, there were plenty of hazards at the Qatar Grand Prix. Max Verstappen steered clear of them all to follow up his Formula One drivers’ title with his ninth win of the year Sunday.
