Former President Jimmy Carter's remains were flown from Atlanta to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, where the nation's top leaders paid tribute to the 39th U.S. president. Carter will lie in state in the U.

The public will be able to pay their respects to the 39th president at the U.S. Capitol until his state funeral Thursday morning.

Carter will remain at the Capitol until Thursday morning, when he is transported to Washington National Cathedral for a state funeral.
