Jail officials in Georgia’s most populous county are violating the constitutional rights of people in their custody by failing to protect them from violence, using excessive force, and holding them in filthy and unsafe conditions,

The Fulton County Jail in Atlanta unconstitutionally subjects inmates to “inhumane, violent and hazardous conditions” that threaten their safety, a US Justice Department official said Thursday, announcing the results of a 16-month investigation.

The Justice Department (DOJ) issued a 105-page report Thursday outlining the inhumane conditions in the Fulton County Jail in Georgia. The DOJ found the jail managed by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office violated the Eighth and 14th amendments of the U.

If it stands, the ruling could significantly shake up the country’s politics by potentially unseating Lee Jae-myung as a lawmaker and denying him a shot at running for president.
