Ukraine’s parliament has canceled a session as security was tightened after Russia deployed a new ballistic missile that threatens to escalate the nearly three-year war.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President-elect Donald Trump chose lawyer Matthew Whitaker on Wednesday to be U.S. ambassador to NATO, selecting a loyalist with little foreign policy experience for what may be one of the highest-profile ambassadorships during Trump's second administration.

The choice of Whitaker as the nation's representative to NATO is an unusual one, given his background is in law enforcement and not in foreign policy.
