Unlike solar panels that can only generate power while the sun’s shining, Aurea Technologies’ new Shine 2.0 portable wind turbine can potentially work all day long. That is, as long as the weather cooperates and provides an 8mph breeze needed to keep the turbine’s blades spinning.

Under ideal conditions, when the wind reaches 28 mph, Shine 2.0 can generate up to 50W of power, which the company claims would be enough to charge a smartphone in around 17 minutes. However, if there’s a breeze of just 8 mph it will take nearly twelve hours to charge the same device.

It can function all day long, and even at nights, as it just needs an eight miles per hour (12.7 km per hour) breeze to function, something which shouldn’t be much of a problem
