Seoul has recorded its heaviest November snowfall since records began over a century ago in 1907. The South Korean capital was covered with at least 16 cm of snow on Wednesday - beating the city's previous record of 12.

The first snowfall of the season dumped a record 17.2 centimeters of snow in South Korea’s capital city Seoul on Wednesday, snarling traffic, grounding some flights with the weather bureau forecasting more bad weather.

South Korea’s weather agency said 20 centimeters (7.8 inches) of snow fell in northern areas of Seoul and nearby areas. The agency said it was the heaviest snowstorm Seoul has experienced in 52 years. A storm on Nov. 28, 1972 dumped 12 centimeters (4.7) inches of snow on the capital.
