New York City politicians are calling on Whoopi Goldberg to apologize for suggesting on air that a local bakery had declined to make The View co-host a batch of desserts for her birthday because of her political beliefs.

While the Sister Act star didn’t name the bakery outright, Entertainment Weekly later identified it as Holtermann’s Bakery on Staten Island, NYC. After outspoken liberal Goldberg said the bakery refused to serve her due to her politics, Haines spat out a mouthful of the dessert live on air.

Whoopi Goldberg claimed that a historic bakery on Staten Island wouldn’t fill a dessert request that she’d made because the business didn’t like her politics. The owner of the bakery, Holtermann’s, said that a major maintenance issue at the business had prevented it from filling any large orders,
