Alex Delvecchio’s hockey story parallels the nearly 100-year story of the Detroit Red Wings franchise. He died Tuesday, July 1 at the age of 93.

Even before he retired, Alex Delvecchio started receiving awards. They continued for more than four decades before the Detroit Red Wings great died.

The center played all 24 of his NHL seasons with the iconic franchise and was most famously in the middle of a dominant line alongside Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay. Delvecchio helped guide Detroit to three Stanley Cup titles during the 1952, 1954 and 1955 campaigns.
