Georgia detained 107 people in the capital city of Tbilisi overnight during a protest against the government's decision to halt European Union accession talks, the country's interior ministry reported on Saturday.

The prime minister Irakli's statement that Georgia will not seek to open accession talks with the European Union until 2028 ignited a furious reaction from the opposition and two days of protests.

Georgia on Saturday said 107 people were arrested during a second night of protests sparked by the newly-elected government's decision to delay European Union membership talks amid a post-election crisis.

TBILISI - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Saturday that the state would not allow a revolution to take place, after protests against his government's sudden freezing this week of Georgia's EU accession process.

The US Department of State has announced the suspension of the strategic partnership agreement with Georgia. This decision is in response to the mass protests in Tbilisi that erupted after the ruling party,

"Georgian Dream’s various anti-democratic actions have violated the core tenets of our U.S.-Georgia Strategic Partnership ... As a result, the United States has suspended this mechanism."
