Strong winds due to Storm Bert have uprooted trees and caused travel disruption across Kent. Officials warned that disruption to rail, road, air and ferry services were likely, as well as possible damage to buildings, power cuts and danger to life.

The Met Office said strong winds due to Storm Bert were likely to cause dangerous conditions and disruption. A UK Power Networks spokesperson said: "During a storm, fallen trees and broken branches can damage overhead power lines. "If you see damaged overhead lines or equipment stay well away, call 105 and 999, and keep others away."

Tens of thousands of homes, farms and businesses in Ireland suffered power outages due to Storm Bert on Saturday, while some rail lines and roads were closed in Britain due to what forecasters called a "multi-hazard event".
