A runoff election in the state Supreme Court in Mississippi race is too close to call, with State Sen. Jenifer Branning and Justice Jim Kitchens neck and neck as of Wednesday morning.

The U.S. Supreme Court asked the Justice Department on Monday to weigh in on whether the justices should review a copyright dispute between Cox Communications [RIC:RIC:COXC.UL] and a group of music labels following a judicial decision that threw out a $1 billion jury verdict against the internet service provider over alleged piracy of music by Cox customers.

Mississippi voters will decide winners for one seat on the state Supreme Court and one on the state Court of Appeals.

Riggs, who leads Griffin in the Supreme Court race, said her own parents had their votes challenged by Republican election protests.
