Rhode Island FC lost the title game against Switchbacks FC in the USL Championship, 3-0. The club was able to upset three of the four top seeds to win the Eastern Conference title during their championship run.

Rhode Island is the first expansion club to reach the league finals since Sporting Kansas City II in 2016 and the first club to do it out of the Eastern Conference. The 2014 Sacramento Republic FC club is the only expansion team to win the season’s final game.

Rhode Island FC beat Charleston Battery 2-1 on Saturday night, winning the USL Championship Eastern Conference title. RIFC got on the board first right before hal time when defender Karifa Yao found the back of the net in the 42nd minute after a deep throw-in from midfielder Clay Holstad.
