London’s Gatwick Airport said it is reopening its South Terminal after police resolved a security alert triggered when a suspicious item was found in a passenger’s luggage.

Two people were temporarily detained by police after reports of a suspicious package meant Gatwick Airport's South Terminal was evacuated. The South Terminal, one of two at the airport, was shut at 10:55 GMT on Friday while an explosive ordnance disposal team "made the package safe".

Thousands of passengers travelling through Gatwick were hit by severe delays on Friday after the airport’s South Terminal was evacuated following reports of a suspicious package.
