A Colorado State Patrol corporal was likely a “target of opportunity” when he was ambushed and shot while parked along U.S. 36 near Westminster earlier this month, agency officials said Monday. State patrol leaders released body-worn camera footage of the moments before and after Cpl.

A team of investigators are trying to figure out if Cpl. Tye Simcox was a specific target or if any other troopers face threats.

CSP released a timeline of events for a shootout in which officials say a trooper was shot before returning fire and killing the suspect. Video, taken from several angles, shows the shooting spanned less than a minute.
