Cyclone Fengal has started making landfall near Tamil Nadu's Puducherry at 5:30 PM on Saturday and it will take nearly four hours to complete. As a pre-emptive measure, the state government appealed to people to stay indoors and declared November 30 a holiday for educational institutions as a precautionary measure.

Cyclone Fengal is set to make landfall in Tamil Nadu, bringing heavy rainfall and winds up to 90 km/h. The IMD has issued warnings for several districts, including Chennai, with disruptions expected in transport and flight operations.

The IMD stated that Cyclone Fengal is expected to move westward and cross the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram near Puducherry as a cyclonic storm, with wind speeds of 70-80 kmph, gusting up to 90 kmph, by the evening of November 30.

Several airlines issued travel advisories about their schedules amid heavy rain in the region due to storm set to make landfall near Tamil Nadu.

Chennai: The Chennai International Airport has temporarily shut down operations due to heavy rains as Cyclone Fengal approaches landfall. IndiGo Airlines announced that no flights would arrive or depart during this period which will continue till 1 P.

IndiGo Airlines has temporarily suspended all arrival and departure flight operations at Chennai Airport due to adverse weather conditions.
