An Israeli drone targeted a car in the southern Lebanese port city of Sidon on Monday, killing one person, in the deepest strike in the country since a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel took effect in late November,

The Israeli army intensified its attacks in southern Lebanon on Monday ahead of a Feb. 18 deadline for withdrawing its forces from the area. Israeli forces pushed deep into the center of Kfarchouba town, where Lebanese army troops are deployed, the Lebanese state news agency NNA reported.

Naim Qassem said any Israeli military presence on Lebanese soil after February 18 would be considered an occupying force.

A woman was killed and several other people wounded Sunday when Israeli forces opened fire on a group of residents attempting to return to the village of Houla in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese state-run news agency reported.

One person was killed on Monday in an Israeli airstrike targeting a car in Sidon in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese media. The state news agency NNA said the body of one person was retrieved from a car struck by an Israeli drone on the coastal road in Sidon.

The United States has reportedly told Lebanese officials that Israel’s military intends to remain in five strategic points inside Lebanon, but will withdraw from towns it still occupies.
