China Calls Report That Defence Minister Dong Jun Is Under Probe 'Shadow-Chasing'
BEIJING (Reuters) - China's foreign ministry, responding to a question about a report saying the Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun has been placed under investigation for corruption, said on Wednesday that it was "just shadow-chasing".
Dong is the third Chinese defense chief in less than two years to be snagged in Xi Jinping's anti-corruption net.
The suspension of Miao Hua, one of China's highest-ranking military officials, marks an escalation in leader Xi Jinping's campaign to tackle corruption.
