Dallas Mavericks fans are livid about the Luka Doncic trade, and it's going to take a long time for the sting of what they see as the ultimate organizational betrayal to dissipate -- if it ever does.

Following the blockbuster NBA trade that sent star point guard to the Los Angeles Lakers for star big man Anthony Davis, many fans of the Dallas Mavericks were angry. Much of the anger was geared toward general manager Nico Harrison as they couldn't believe he traded Doncic away.

The man who executed the move, general manager Nico Harrison, has reportedly been subjected to death threats and racial epithets in its aftermath. Therefore he will not be in his normal seat in the stands, and ESPN also included a report on its chyron that a full-time security team is protecting his home.

The Dallas Mavericks are trying to move forward in the wake of one of the biggest trades in NBA history. But as the front office tries to adapt, the fans are still upset over their star and they've made it known in the form of threats and protests all over the city.

For Harrison, winning just one title without Dončić won't do. He is all in, cards to the center of the table, certain he will prevail.

At 25 years old and the heir to the throne of Mavericks greatness handed down from Dirk Nowitzki, Doncic was revered in Dallas, and led the Mavs to the NBA Finals last year. It appeared he had another decade or so of great hoops with the Mavs ahead.

Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison received death threats from fans upset with the recent Luka Doncic trade

Kidd was unaware that Harrison was shopping Doncic. Harrison reportedly had nearly a month of dialogue with Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka about the move. Not once did he tell the coach he thinks he’s aligned with about what was in the works behind the scenes.

“Trading away Luka Magic has left a deep void in the hearts of Dallas fans,” fundraiser organizer Jacob Posner wrote. “By banding together for this billboard campaign, we’re sending a strong, undeniable message to the Mavs front office: We refuse to be overlooked, and we deserve better decisions.”
