An Israeli airstrike killed at least 20 people in central Beirut on Saturday, Lebanon's health ministry said, one of the deadliest strikes on the heart of the capital since Israel began its assault against the Iran-backed Hezbollah group in September.

An Israeli strike on a Lebanese army center has killed one soldier and wounded 18 others, the Lebanese military said.

Israel's military has once again bombed buildings near the Lebanese capital Beirut, with a dpa reporter counting at least eight loud explosions. The airstrikes followed several evacuation calls by the Israeli military to residents of the suburbs known as Dahieh.

Lebanon said an Israeli air strike in the heart of Beirut that brought down a residential building and jolted residents across the city killed at least 15 people on Saturday.

The Beirut airstrike is just one of several across the country as Israel continues its aggressive military campaign against Hezbollah

Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have resulted in dozens of deaths in multiple attacks across the country, with 29 fatalities from a single attack in Beirut's Basta area. Additional strikes in eastern and southern Lebanon have also caused significant casualties.
