A 40-year-old surfer describes a shark attack at New Smyrna Beach in Florida as feeling "like a bear trap" and "electricity."

An incident over the weekend has added to New Smyrna Beach's reputation as the Shark Bite Capital of the World. According to Volusia County Beach Safety, a 40-year-old Winter Park man was bitten on his right forearm as he swam in the ocean just south of the jetty, Sunday, July 6, at around 3 p.m.

“Sandbar sharks are not an aggressive species,” he added, noting that it typically takes the shark to be provoked by a fisherman. “It’s a wake-up call for fishermen.” The Nantucket Current first reported on the incident near Hoicks Hollow Sunday night.
