LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — Tyrese Hunter scored 17 of his 26 points after halftime to lead Memphis to a 99-97 overtime win against two-time defending national champion and second-ranked UConn on Monday in the first round of the Maui Invitational.

UConn lost its opening round game at the 2024 Maui Invitational 99–97 in an overtime heartbreaker against Memphis. During the contest, Hurley's sideline antics drew criticism from the college basketball world. His frequent berating of the game's officials was the focus of much of the condemnation.

Staring down the two-time defending national champion UConn Huskies, the Memphis basketball team held their collective gaze.
