Israel has warned on Sunday that its ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah could collapse if the Iran-backed group does not withdraw beyond the Litani River, one of the key stipulations of the truce.

Hezbollah, which was severely diminished during nearly 14 months of war, has threatened to resume fighting if Israel does not withdraw its forces.

A senior Israeli leader has warned that the country’s ceasefire with Hezbollah could collapse if the U.S.-designated terrorist group does not abide by the conditions of the deal. Defense Minister Israel Katz said that Israel is “interested” in the complete implementation of the deal,

The State Department has informed Congress of a planned $8 billion weapons sale to Israel. U.S. officials say some of the weapons could be sent through current U.S. stocks but the majority of the package would take a year or several years to deliver.

The Biden administration notified Congress of a weapons package for Israel that is one of the largest new arms sales since the war in Gaza began.

The arms transfer could be the final one the Biden administration provides to Israel. President Biden has largely ignored critics of Israel’s conduct in Gaza who have urged a halt to weapons aid.
