The seat was eventually won by the Labour Party’s Marie Sherlock. As counting resumed in the RDS on Sunday morning, Mr Hutch took an early lead as he took 1,262 transfers from Malachy Steenson and opened up a 2,000 lead on Ms Sherlock.

The count has resumed for Dublin South Central at 10am this morning as no candidates were elected yesterday. Irish People's Jina Ahearne and independent Dolores Webster have dropped out of the race on counts four and five. After a long day, the count has now been adjourned to 9.15am tomorrow.

With all boxes now tallied in the Dublin Central constituency, Independent candidate Gerard Hutch looks likely to be in contention for a seat with around 9% of first preference votes.

There are four seats up for grabs in Dublin Central in what looks to be an intriguing race. Mary Lou McDonald and Paschal Donohoe are set to be re-elected but the other two seats are up for grabs, with Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch looking like he could take one,
