UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot near a Midtown Manhattan hotel in a potentially targeted shooting early Wednesday, according to police.

The CEO of UnitedHealth was fatally shot in the chest Wednesday morning outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown in what police say was a targeted attack.

The executive, Brian Thompson, was shot in what the police described as a “brazen targeted attack” outside a hotel where the company was holding an investor meeting. The assailant was last spotted in Central Park,
