The Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana and Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission provided more than 2,000 meals to ensure the community had a happy Thanksgiving.

The shelter will provide food, a collar, a leash and a toy. They can also assist with a crate or bed. Unity of Faith Baptist Church gave away more than 125 plates for free to residents and people in the community.

Don Waite, a volunteer at Light of Life, said he thinks they'll be cooking around 550 pounds of green beans as part of preparing meals for the needy this Thanksgiving. Waite has been volunteering at the Light of Life Rescue Mission during this time of year for 28 years.
